Today was a productive day. I started off the day going to the grocery store and stocking up on frozen veggies since they were on sale at Kroger. I love it when they have a 10 for $10 sale.
I made a big pot of succotash. I remember my grandmother used to make it and can it in quart size mason jars. Whenever I would come for a visit, she would let me go down into the basement and pick out a jar of it for her to cook for me. I hadn’t made any in years, but today I bought the ingredients needed and made a big pot. I made it a little bit differently from how I used to make it because I found a recipe online for a zesty succotash. I added some chili powder, garlic and onion and green peppers to the traditional goodies (corn, lima beans, okra and tomatoes), and it turned out quite well. I was wanting something healthy to eat, and this is very healthy. No meat, no fat, just veggies.
No naps today. Instead, I did some light housework, washed a load of white clothes, and tidied up the dining room. The table had become a catch all for stuff, but not anymore. I still have boxes of dishes to unpack and put in the china cabinet, but that’s a task for another day.
Talked to Daddy late this afternoon. He had gone to the VA in Florida for a checkup today, and I wanted to make sure he got home okay. I’ll admit I was getting worried about him because it was getting late in the day, and I hadn’t heard from him. Luckily he had someone go with him today so he didn’t have the task of doing all the driving himself.
Tonight I decided to try something new with the blog. I’m a Thesis user. I love the theme, and I have learned a lot since I’ve been using it. One of the forum members had found a way of turning the multi-media box into a widgetized area like the sidebars. I followed his instructions and then downloaded the NextGen Gallery plugin. Now the box contains a slideshow of my grandkids that changes every few seconds. I even finally figured out how to recolor the tabs in my nav bar like I wanted. I’m very pleased with those accomplishments.
So now I’m just putzing around some more with the blog, surfing the net, and also watching the History Channel. The topic tonight is “Stopping Armageddon” and how to possibly stop an asteroid from hitting the earth.
